Why teak?
Teak has high exceptional natural oils, high density, and silica content, making it incredibly resistant to water, rot, insects, and extreme weather, preventing warping and ensuring longevity for decks, interiors, and trim effective slip resistance, especially when wet, making them a popular choice for boats and exterior use, safety and comfort.
Its unique properties mean it requires minimal upkeep compared to other woods, solidifying its status as a premium marine material.
This non-slip quality is due to teak's high natural oil content, and unique grain. While specific slip ratings aren't typically given in numerical terms, its widespread and long-standing use in marine environments confirms its excellent grip.
High Natural Oil and Silica Content:
The natural oils in teak contribute to its durability and also provide a slightly oily, textured surface that enhances grip and long life protection against harsh UV rays.
Hardwood:
Teak is a very hard, dense wood, which makes it durable and resistant to wear, but it also creates a surface that maintains good traction, even under challenging conditions.
Grain Texture:
The unique grain and texture of teak provide friction, preventing hands and feet from sliding, even when the deck is wet.
Benefits of Teak's Non-Slip Properties
Safety:
It significantly reduces the risk of slipping and falling on a boat, which is essential in wet and moving conditions.
Comfort:
The surface is not only safe but also comfortable to walk on, providing a firm and stable platform.
Durability:
Its ability to withstand the marine environment, including salt water, sun, and weather, means its non-slip properties are maintained over a long period.
