Teak Application

Application of the teak: Please read!

Step 1: Prepare the surface.

If necessary, sand surface flat to have no lumps and bumps to allow as much surface area as possible for the adhesive.

(If applying to low surface energy material (Polys, Star board, etc) sanding is necessary and acetone must be used to clean the surface before applying the teak.)

In a room temperature environment, use Acetone or Alcohol to clean the surface thoroughly (Not Turpentine or oil base!) removing all dirt, oil and grime. Make sure the surface it is dry and free of debris.

Step 2: Placement and Application.

The teak panel can be fragile before application, it can be snap if overstressed, be careful not to over bend or twist!

If you need to flatten the teak if it has warped a bit, with a spray bottle, lightly mist the teak with water and wipe to spread the water. Allow a few minutes for the humidity to flatten the teak.

Without removing the adhesive backing, lay the teak down to test and see alignment. There is only one chance, once down its down!

Pull the backing back on one corner or side, lay the teak down and align without touching the adhesive. Once perfectly aligned, press down the open corner or side with pressure. Continue to peel back the remaining of the backing, slowly pull and stick the teak down as you go.

The adhesive is pressure activated, using the backing in your hand to help slide around the teak, apply solid pressure to all edges and corners for 5 seconds. Adhesive fully cures in 48hrs.

Step 3: Washing and After care of sealer

Wash as normal as you would your vessel or vehicle with soap and water. The sealer will prevent any stains occurring so use a soft brush, don’t scrub too hard and remove the sealer as it will shorten the lifespan and need reapplication. DON’T use high pressure water directly into the teak as this will strip sealer and remove softer teak pulp.

Important ! Resealing is recommended once a year or reseal as required to keep a visible layer. When your vessel, craft or vehicle is not in use, leave covered up or out of the sun to prolong the life of your teak! If left uncovered in full sunlight, reseal as required to keep a visible layer. This will help with protecting the teak from UV and elements giving longevity, quality and that beautiful look and feel.

Reseal

Wash with soap and water then clean with Alcohol and reseal with  semco-teak-sealer teak sealer as directed.

Remove old sealer and reseal.

There are teak cleaning products if you wish to remove all the old teak sealer and brighten the teak. Remember to tape around the teak to help protect the outer surface. Use semco-teak-cleaner teak cleaner as directed and with a soft Scotch Brite pad or similar work across the grain (never with the grain) this stops the removal of too much teak pulp and just remover of old sealer and dirt.

Now apply  semco-teak-sealer As suggested.

Step 4: Washing and aftercare of Hard wax oil

Clean and wash as you would a normal benchtop, table or floor.

If scuffing or scratching occurs in the coating, lightly sand out the scratches with a Scotch pad or similar fine pad.

Now apply fiddes/hard-wax-oil As suggested

Step 5: Media

Could you please take pictures or a video of the teak out in the wild for me, I would like to make a post with it. A post from you with a collaboration to the post or tag would be amazing too. @teaken.teak.

If you have a free minute, please click the link and write me a quick Google review with a pic.. I would really appreciate all of this. Teaken google review

Removal - If needed.

Tape boarders of the teak with masking tape for protection. With a heat gun slowly warm the teak and adhesive to soften. With a soft plastic scraper, peel up the teak bit by bit until off. Be careful not to damage the surface with scraper! Clean remaining adhesive with turpentine.
