My Teaken Story

My Teaken Story

Teaken has been a journey rooted in craftsmanship, passion, and a deep respect for one of nature’s finest materials—teak.

For over 20 years, I worked in the boatbuilding and yachting industry, honing my skills and gaining an intimate knowledge of luxury craftsmanship. From designing and constructing yachts to maintaining Luxury vessels for the very rich and famous, I spent my days shaping and varnishing timber, sealing decks and running my hands across the grain of finely aged teak. Day in and day out, I stood on this remarkable wood, admiring not just its timeless beauty, but its resilience. Teak doesn’t just last—it thrives. It weathers the harshest elements, resists splitting and grows more beautiful with time.

It was during those years at sea that the seed for Teaken was planted. I realized that teak didn’t belong only on the decks of superyachts—it belonged in everyday luxury. I envisioned teak not as a background detail, but as the centerpiece. I wanted to bring that same craftsmanship, feel, and durability with customisation and versatility into all vessels, vehicles, homes, outdoor spaces and curated lifestyle products.

So, I began sourcing sustainable teak—slow-grown and responsibly harvested. I spent countless hours experimenting with finishes, layering techniques and design processes to find the perfect balance between form and function. Hand-cutting teak veneers and testing every concept by feel and eye. The final product took a year to perfect. But over this time, with persistence and innovation, I developed new techniques using laser engraving and precision tools to bring my designs to life with both efficiency and artistry.

Every Teaken product still starts with the same philosophy: timeless design, honest craftsmanship, and deep respect for the wood itself. Whether it’s a statement piece of furniture, a refined deck accent, or a custom surface finish, Teaken combines the soul of traditional boatbuilding with modern design sensibilities.

I don’t just work with teak. I honour it.
